Studio Sessions Vol.7 | Feature Poet, Theme & Venue Space Change
Tomorrow night, we are back with another special volume of SpeakEasy Poetry's Studio Sessions Open Mic with Feature Poet Key Stone for this month's theme of 'unfurling fresh futures'
Hello Substack followers, and sorry for the delay in this month’s announcements! There is all the usual goodness, sharing our feature poet & monthly theme, as well as a small location change within echo&bounce for this month’s event!
For our Seventh Volume of SpeakEasy Poetry’s Studio Sessions Open Mic this coming Friday, August 15th at echo&bounce, we have the honour of hosting the mystical & meaningful Key Stone (of echoes from the cave inn)
Key Stone (Any/all) is a folk punk musician and poet based in Meanjin, on the unceded lands of the Jagera and Turrbul people. Key writes to a variety of themes but often finds himself strung on motifs of greif and desire. He self publishes poetry on instagram at @starsofstclements and you can find his musical work on @keyofthearch. Key co hosts a monthly poetry night called Echoes from the Cave Inn that has been running since October 2022, it runs the first Tuesday of every month in Woolongabba and you can find information more regarding the event on instagram @echoes_fromthecave or by emailing echoesfromthecave22@gmail.com
If you have a book or publication launching soon, or you’re an established poet touring the area or finding us through Substack, feel free to reach out to see if we have a Feature Poet slot that works for you!
Secondly, our Theme for Volume 7 is ‘unfurling fresh futures’.
For those who are new to SpeakEasy Poetry’s Studio Sessions Open Mic format, in this run of events we are creating a poem through time. Each theme is a new line of the work, and over the year we will weave together our shared poetry. These themes are an entirely optional fun prompt, just to get you writing if you like the motivation. Poet’s share works on all themes, so please bring whatever you wish to perform, on theme for the event or on theme for you!
So far, our first seven themes for the year have formed our first stanza-
“we were seeds
searching for sunlight
down in the weeds
tending our wounds
/
as we change our ways
we bloom into flowers
unfurling fresh futures”
Finally, there is a small but important update on the event location within echo&bounce’s hallowed & historied rabbit warren. Due to a last minute discovery of an event clash with the Loft/Studio spaces, we will be hosting SpeakEasy Poetry within the basement space of echo&bounce this month. In a return to original SpeakEasy Poetry vibes from our 21/22 run, we will descend into the underground hearth to share our deepest hopes & desires. The basement is air-conditioned with arranged seating for us to fill with cosy & creative vibes. This has meant a slightly smaller ticket capacity, so please purchase your tickets in advance to guarantee your space! If you have any questions regarding accessibility, please reach out.
If you’re unable to make it on August 15th for our Seventh Volume, do not fret! We will be announcing dates for the rest of the year very shortly! Follow along here, Instagram, Facebook or Humanitix to keep up to date!
We are so excited to see you all tomorrow night for another gorgeous volume of SpeakEasy Poetry Open Mic!
with love,
